History and culture in the Ben Gurion airport: learn
History and culture sites in the Ben Gurion airpor - learn about the area
If you have lived in Israel in recent years, you surely know that the whole subject of flights has intensified many times more than it was before. Today, the number of Israelis who fly abroad each year only increases, and quite a few even fly several times a year. For many, Israel is just a transit station on the way to and from freedom, but in fact it doesn't have to be that way. Around the airport there are lots of things to do, places to see, good restaurants and interesting attractions. It is certainly possible to turn the day of the flight, which is certainly a wasted and stressful day in a family group, into a day of fun and educational trip. Among other things, you can find fascinating historical sites in the immediate vicinity of the National Bank of Israel, ones that will add an educational aspect to your trip and enjoyment. It is recommended to reach the sites offered here by car, and if you don't have one, you can rent one through a car rental agency in Israel, so that you don't have to depend on the schedules of Public transportation as far as flying is concerned.

The Rainbow Pool in Ramla
One of the surprising and unusual places in the central area is the archery pool in Ramla, which is about a twenty minute drive from the field. It is, unsurprisingly, an underground water reservoir built of arches, an instructive example of ancient Muslim architecture. The building itself is over one thousand two hundred years old, and has withstood all the ravages of time. Today it is possible to visit the place, learn about it, and even sail in boats inside the reservoir. It is important to note that this is a short stay, so it is suitable as a spot to visit before a flight, or as part of a longer trip in the area (can be combined with the next destination).
Lod Mosaic Archaeological Center
During one of the construction expansion projects in the city of Lod, an amazing find was discovered. One of the largest, most beautiful and most complete mosaics preserved from antiquity. It is about 1800 years old, its area is close to 150 square meters (!), and it contains descriptions of animals, vegetation and even boats. It was displayed in many museums around the world (including famous ones such as the Metropolitan in New York and the Louvre in Paris), and is currently displayed in the Archaeological Center in Lod. Along with it, a wide variety of archaeological findings from this ancient and important city are described in the museum. In addition to the mosaic itself, the center has developed and continues to develop a variety of activities and interactive programs in order to make it accessible to children. It is a fascinating and fun pastime for all ages, and one that allows you to get to know new sides in places we didn't know. It is certainly possible to combine with a visit to the pool of arches in Ramla mentioned above.
