History and culture: let's get to know glilot

Come for a visit to Gilolit and the surrounding area and visit charming sites. Special national parks and museums - an opportunity to get to know the area from a slightly different angle.

Glilot - modernity and history in one place

Whether you come to visit Gilolit itself, or as a platform for visiting other places, you will surely be happy to discover that there are quite a few interesting historical sites and museums in the Gilolit area. Sites that can add a fascinating and deep garnet to a visit to Gilol. These sites are within driving distance of Gilil, and cover a variety of categories and topics. Ancient archaeological sites, fascinating museums, and even a medieval fortress that still dominates one of the main roads in Israel. Surprised? We were too. But it's here, it exists, and the list below is just a small sample of the many options available. We will also note that some of the sites on this list will be difficult to reach by public transportation, so it is highly recommended to travel to them by car. It can be your car, or a car you rented from a car rental agency in Israel.

Migdal Tzedek National Park

The first historical site you can visit as part of a trip to glilot is the Migdal Tzedek National Park in Rosh Ha'Ain, only a twenty minute drive from Gilolit. This national park provides breathing air to East Gush Dan, and is a focal point of attraction for many visitors every year, for many reasons. In the territory of the national park, you can find hiking trails of varying lengths, bike trails, and more. The blooming in the place changes according to the season, as does the view. And finally, the highlight is Afek Citadel, a medieval citadel that, with the Turkish occupation of the country, became a private estate. Today it forms the heart of the national garden, and among other things you can find a light and sound performance that tells the story of the site.

Apollonia National Park

Almost in the opposite direction from the Migdal Tzedek National Park (the exact opposite direction is directly into the sea), about a quarter of an hour's drive from Gilil, is the Apollonia National Park. There was a settlement in the place even in the days of the Roman Empire, as evidenced by the Roman villa excavated there. The national park includes several sites, and that's apart from the walking trails and the dramatic Kurkar cliffs, which allow you to discover the rich history of the area. Among other things, you can see the huge moat of the city of Apollonia in the Middle Ages - as well as its fortress - the excavations of the two-thousand-year-old Roman villa, and even a furnace for the production of glass, an industry that was probably the center of the economy in the area in ancient times.

We are the Museum of the Jewish People

What used to be known as the "Home of the Diaspora" has become in recent years "Ano - the Museum of the Jewish People". This is an old and magnificent institution, such that visiting it is a must. The museum is located within the campus of Tel Aviv University (about a ten minute drive from Gollum), and is a fascinating place that will allow you to learn so much about the history of the Jewish people. The permanent exhibitions that tell about the different communities, the changing exhibitions of art and various items, all of these come to tell the complex and fascinating story of the people who have been searching for their way for over 3,300 years. Especially in this period, a period when every Jew and Jewry, regardless of who they are, is re-examining the roots of their identity, there is no doubt that it is very important to study in depth about the origins of our people, and the way in which it has been shaped throughout history.

The Land of Israel Museum

If the previous destination deals with the Jewish people, then this museum (not surprisingly) deals with the Land of Israel. A variety of items and exhibits dealing with every possible aspect of history and life in the land of Israel, such that allow the visitor to get a fuller and better picture of the place, the region and the people living in it. The uniqueness of the museum is expressed (among other things) in the various spaces in it, including closed and open spaces, displays that recreate ancient elements such as a market, a flour mill, and more, and even the presence of a large ecological orchard on the museum grounds. The Land of Israel Museum (also located about ten minutes' drive from Tel Aviv) can be visited for a whole day, as well as for a short time or even for one of the many performances and events held at the museum.

Tayo

The Tayo complex is a place for lovers of art and culture, one that will allow you to enjoy a constantly renewing world of art on a variety of subjects. Dance, painting, photography, music and more. The place is designed to be a home for creators of all kinds, and invites those interested to spend time there, drink a cup of coffee and enjoy the variety of shows offered to visitors. It is recommended to keep up-to-date on the exhibitions and the show schedule of Ta'o in advance, in order to make sure that you arrive at a time when art close to your heart is displayed (or in case you want to open your mind to new directions). We will also note that the chances are that Thao is intended for older visitors, and it is not the ideal place for spending time with children.

In conclusion, although this fact may sound surprising, a visit to glilot and its immediate surroundings allows you to visit quite a few historical sites, and those full of culture and spirit. Archaeological and scenic sites, fascinating museums, art centers - all these and more you can find within a short drive from Gilil, which is close to the big city - Tel Aviv. The trip can be done in your own car, or even use car rental services in glilot that will offer you maximum comfort. Either way, there is no doubt that the variety of activities you can choose from when you arrive in this area is extremely impressive, one that you probably did not expect.
